Sanctuary as stage: a “Gratitude Tree” in Pécs Cathedral. A plastic tree has been installed in front of the sanctuary inside the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Pécs, Hungary, to mark World Gratitude Day on September 21. The installation, which will remain until September 30, invites visitors to pause, reflect on what they are grateful for, write down a word, name, memory or personal message, and attach it to the tree.
55% of French priests aged 25–34 celebrate the Mass in the Roman rite. That’s according to figures reported by the French daily Le Figaro and the French pollster IFOP, headed by Jérôme Fourquet. Among French priests aged 75 and over, the corresponding figure is just 2%. However, the overall decline in the number of priests in France has been disastrous. France had nearly 40,000 priests in 1980. By 2025, that number had fallen to fewer than 12,000, with a median age of about 75.

That’s because God exists, even if the world—with all its ideologies, science, and technology—ignores Him. Indeed, God, our Creator, knows better than we do what lies within our hearts and what truly brings them happiness, both in time and in eternity.
Cardinal McElroy hails Leo XIV’s shift from “unfortunate” Catechism teaching. Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington, writing at NcROnline.org on September 23, said that “during the past six months, we have witnessed a remarkable transformation in Catholic teaching on war.” McElroy praised the “tremendous progress” made during that period toward “eclipsing the role of the just war tradition in Catholic teaching.” “The just war framework has been distorted to become a source of justification for those inclined to go to war, rather than a constraint on war,” McElroy claimed. Hosts from tabernacle scattered across a town square. On September 19, unknown perpetrators entered the Sacred Heart of Mary parish church in Guitiriz, Lugo, Spain, forced open the tabernacle and stole the silver ciborium containing hosts. They were later found scattered outside in the town square. The Diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol described the incident as a grave profanation of the Eucharist. The parish filed a complaint and the Guardia Civil opened an investigation. Investigators are reportedly reviewing security cameras from nearby businesses. Bishop Fernando García Cadiñanos will celebrate a Eucharist of reparation at the church on 29 September.

Funeral for a male dancer turns into a comedy performance. Dancer, choreographer, and social worker Thierry Parmentier, 74, was given a funeral in the Catholic church of Caldogno, Italy, on June 24. He had planned the event himself, including its music, choreography and performances. Belgian-born, Parmentier had lived in the Vicenza area for over 40 years and staged productions to raise funds for AIDS research. The church was filled with Doctor Clown volunteers, biodance and holistic practitioners, and stilt-walkers. Don Gigi Maistrello, chaplain to Vicenza prison, preached the homily. After the funeral, an animated procession accompanied the coffin to the parish centre, where the farewell continued with music, dance and performances.

Emmanuel Macron’s decision not to attend the papal Eucharists during Leo XIV’s visit to France is in keeping with France’s state religion of laicism. A priest has been killed and four people injured in a knife attack at the Benedictine abbey in Jarosław, Poland, on September 24. Police say a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen attacked four men and a woman shortly before 9:30 a.m. and was detained at the scene. Fr. Stanisław died from his injuries. Fr. Marek was seriously wounded. The other victims were also hospitalized. The motive has not yet been established.
Dziś rano, na terenie Opactwa Sióstr Benedyktynek w Jarosławiu doszło do ataku nożownika (31-letniego obywatela Ukrainy) na grupę osób, które prawdopodobnie zgromadziły się na poranne nabożeństwo. W wyniku napaści zginął kapłan - ks. Stanisław, rektor ośrodka rekolekcyjnego. Dwóch kolejnych duchownych (w tym ks. Marek) jest w bardzo poważnym stanie. W ataku ranione zostały również inne osoby, w tym jedna kobieta. Do morderstwa doszło po godzinie 9:00. Natomiast o 10:00 miała rozpocząć się Msza Święta. Sprawca został ujęty. Świadkami była m.in. młodzież, która chwilę wcześniej zwiedzała Opactwo, które jest otwarte. Pozostaje nam podjąć pilny szturm modlitewny, zwłaszcza za tych, którzy teraz walczą o życie..
