Der Petersdom hat für den 24. Oktober am Kathedra-Altar eine „Lectio Francisci“ und anschließend eine Messe angesetzt. Zuvor war der internationalen Wallfahrt Summorum Pontificum die Feier ihrer traditionellen Pontifikalmesse an genau diesem Altar verweigert worden. Eine offizielle Begründung dafür gibt es bislang nicht. Bischof Athanasius Schneider wird die Messe nach dem Messbuch von 1962 stattdessen in Santa Maria Maggiore feiern.
