"Let us allow ourselves to be transformed by the peace of Christ"

message. It's especially important this Easter, as the war against Iran and in Ukraine have not ended.
... Brothers and sisters, through his resurrection, the Lord confronts us even more powerfully with the dramatic reality of our freedom. Before the empty tomb, we can be filled with hope and wonder, like the disciples, or with fear like the guards and the Pharisees, forced to resort to lies and subterfuge rather than acknowledge that the one who had been condemned is truly risen! In the light of Easter, let us allow ourselves to be amazed by Christ! Let us allow our hearts to be transformed by his immense love for us! Let those who have weapons lay them down! Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue! Not with the desire to dominate others, but to encounter them!We are growing accustomed to violence, resigning ourselves to it, and becoming indifferent. Indifferent to the deaths of thousands of people. Indifferent to the …

‘Purgatory’ by J. Sadlier; 1886; Chapter I – ‘Verses from the Imitation’; pages 37-40

[Saint Catharine of Genoa – XV-XVI Century AD; Genoa, Republic of Genoa/ Genoa, Republic of Genoa; Aged 62-63; mystic, known for her work among the sick and the poor]
Verses from Imitation ~ Thomas A Kempis
Trust not in thy friends and neighbors,
and put not oft thy soul's welfare till the future ; for men will forget thee sooner than thou thinkest.
It is better to provide now in time and send some good before thee than to trust to the assistance of others after death.
If thou art not solicitous for thyself now, who will be solicitous for thee hereafter.
Did'st thou also well ponder in thy heart the future pains of hell or Purgatory, methinks thou would'st bear willingly labor and sorrow and fear no kind of austerity.
Who will remember thee when thou art dead ? and who will pray for thee ? Now thy labor is profitable, thy tears are acceptable, thy groans are heard, thy sorrow is satisfying and purifieth the soul.
The patient man hath a great and wholesome purgatory.
Better is it to …

Pope: Easter drives out hatred and brings down the mighty

At the Easter Vigil Mass in the Vatican, Pope Leo says that “God responds to the hardness of sin – which divides and kills – with the power of love, which unites and restores life”.
By Joseph Tulloch
Pope Leo XIV reflected on good, evil, and rebirth on Saturday evening, as he presided over the Easter Vigil Mass in St Peter’s Basilica.
Easter, the Pope said, quoting from an ancient hymn, “drives out hatred, fosters concord and brings down the mighty”.

The history of salvation
While the heart of the Easter story is Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, Pope Leo said, “the holy mystery of this night … extends across the centuries”.
In the nine Scripture passages read during the liturgy, the Pope explained, we glimpse some of the stages of this “path of reconciliation and grace”, from God’s creation of the world to the Israelites’ flight from Egypt to the ministry of St Paul.

IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DIVIDED?

IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH DIVIDED? (and is Division so Bad?)
fr.williamnicholas
Fr. Bill addresses divisions within the Catholic Church - why some divisions can be bad, and why some are good for the Church as a whole. Given that Jesus appointed 12 Apostles instead of just 1, could this be what Jesus intended for a Church that is meant to spread throughout the world?

‘Miracles of St. Antonio of Padua’ ~ Chapter I – Miracles during his life; pages 27-37; points 9-12 – ‘St. Saint Anthony Consoler of persecuted Women.’, etc.’

[St. Anthony of Padua XII-XIII Century AD; Lisbon, Kingdom of Portugal/Padua, Holy Roman Empire; (aged 35); powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick; canonized less than a year after his death; Doctor of the Church]
9 ~ St. Saint Anthony Consoler of persecuted Women
St. Anthony always took a great interest in women in- distress, or persecuted, and they therefore look on him as their special protector.
Among those who, owing to the sanctity of the Franciscans,
held them in great veneration and aided them in their daily wants, was a lady who suffered much from a jealous and irritable husband. One evening, after finishing some work and making some purchases for the Brothers, finding it too late to take them to the monastery that night, she took them home with her. This so greatly roused the anger and jealousy of her husband that, not content with loading her with reproaches, he pulled almost all her hair off her head. The poor …More

"12 ~ The Carved Capon
St. Anthony was one day invited by a party of heretics to come to dine with them, in order, as they said, to give them the opportunity of laughing at his stupidity. He good-naturedly accepted their invitation. After sit ting down to table a large bat, such as are found in Sicily, was served up to him, with the request to carve it. When, without being the least disconcerted, he began to do so, they could hardly refrain from laughing aloud; but soon their laughter was changed into astonishment, for hardly had the saint begun to carve the wretched bird before it was changed into a magnificent capon, emitting the most delicious smell. This miracle so completely changed their hearts that they not only acknowledged the power of the servant of God, but renounced their errors and were received into the Church.”

‘The Wisdom of the Desert’ by James O. Hannay; 1904 ~ Chapter IV – ‘How We Ought to Return Good for Evil’; points I-II; part I; pages 37-40

Chapter IV ~ How We Ought to Return Good for Evil
Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. —St. Matt. v. 44.
"My friend," said the bishop,
"before you go take your candlesticks." He went to the mantlepiece, fetched the two candlesticks, and handed them to Jean Valjean. "Now," said the bishop, "go in peace, Jean Valjean, my brother, you no longer belong to evil, but to good. I have bought your soul of you." —Victor Hugo, Les Miserables.
WE can pass quite naturally from the consideration of what the hermits taught about dying to the world to the stories which illustrate the ideal of returning good for evil. Indeed, when we think of death to the world, as evidenced by the patient endurance of wrong, the passing over to the thought of returning good for such evil is so gradual that it is hard sometimes to decide under which heading to place some particular story or exhortation. Yet there seems to be a real …More

"I ~ How an old man blessed one who injured him.
A certain brother came to the cell of an elder, one well known among the brethren for his holiness. Entering in, he stole the food which was there. The old man saw him, but did not accuse him. He only laboured more diligently to supply again what he had lost, saying in his heart, "I am sure that my brother must have been in great need, for else he would not have stolen." In spite of his toil, the old man came to endure great suffering for want of food. At last he was brought even to the point of death. The brethren, knowing only that he was dying, came and stood round his bed. Among them he saw the brother who had stolen his food. "Come hither to me," he said to him. Then taking his hands and kissing them, he said to those who stood around, "I pay my thanks to these hands, brethren, for because of them I am going, as I trust, to enter the kingdom of heaven."

Widespread Rise in Catholic Baptisms Across the Globe

Many dioceses across Europe, North America, and Asia have seen significant increases in Catholic baptisms and conversions this Easter. The strange thing is that anti-Catholic media including New York Times, Washington Post or CNN advertised this trend.
The most significant increase was reported in France, where 21,386 catechumens were baptized during the Easter Vigil. The total included more than 13,000 adults and over 8,000 adolescents, marking the highest figure ever recorded in the country.
Outside Europe, large numbers were also reported in parts of Asia. In Hong Kong, approximately 2,500 catechumens were baptized, while Singapore reported 1,089 catechumens entering the Church.
In North America, several major dioceses published substantial baptism figures. The Archdiocese of Toronto reported 1,584 catechumens, while Vancouver recorded around 650 catechumens.
In the United States, diocesan figures included approximately 900 catechumens in Richmond (Virginia), more than 680 in …More

All Public Easter Liturgies in Dubai Cancelled

Following government directives, public Easter services in Dubai have been cancelled since Good Friday. The regime's excuse is that tensions in the Middle East are escalating.
Dubai has two Catholic parishes - Saint Mary's and Saint Francis of Assisi in Jebel Ali. Both have confirmed the closures on their websites and will remain closed "until further notice".
Saint Mary’s Church is one of the largest Catholic parishes in the world, with around 30,000 members, many of whom are Filipino workers. On Good Friday, many Catholics who had not been informed of the closure were seen praying outside on the pavement instead.
Easter liturgies were only being streamed online.
Bishop Paolo Martinelli, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, acknowledged worshippers' disappointment at missing Holy Week celebrations.
