Fri May 1, 2026 - 12:16 pm EDT TYLER, Texas (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Leo XIV named Tyler, Texas, priest Fr. John Gomez as the new bishop of Laredo, Texas. The move raised eyebrows since Gomez was instrumental in the removal of beloved Tyler, Texas, Bishop Joseph Strickland by Pope Francis. Gomez was vicar general in Tyler under Strickland, but was nevertheless the one who arranged clergy from the diocese to meet with Vatican investigators sent to assess Strickland’s leadership. One of the sources close to Strickland who identified Gomez’s role was Deacon Keith Fournier, who, when called in to give testimony about Bishop Strickland to the Vatican investigators, informed me that he was called by the vicar general – Gomez. Fournier told me that on his arrival he found that the visitation was “not seeking information but a foregone conclusion seeking a way to justify asking (Strickland) to resign.” I communicated with three other individuals intimately involved with the diocese who confirmed …
Vatican prosecutors on Thursday seemingly defied an appeals court order to turn over to the defense all the evidence gathered in the Vatican’s big financial trial, setting the stage for another clash in the long-running case. In a three-page letter, prosecutors said they would allow the appeals court judges to consult the material. But they didn’t deposit the documentation for the defense to see in the chancery as ordered, saying it was “irrelevant” to the trial and could harm the Vatican’s interests. It wasn’t immediately clear how the appeals court would respond. The next hearing is scheduled for June 22. Continue reading at the Associated Press Post Views: 65

The United States Department of Justice released on April 30 a 548-page report on how the Biden administration targeted believing Christians, including traditional Catholics. The report concludes that the Biden administration “zealously pursued actions to limit Christians’ ability to act in accordance with their faith,” particularly those holding traditional biblical views on abortion, sexuality, and gender. Among the report’s findings is that the FBI’s Richmond Field Office treated traditional Catholics as potential extremists, including churches associated with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X. The FBI expanded its scrutiny after interviewing Xavier Louis Lopez, a self-described “radical traditional Catholic Clerical Fascist” convicted of possessing destructive devices. Agents opened a formal law-enforcement “Guardian profile” on his church and interviewed his priest, despite the parish having no involvement in his crimes. Agents also tracked the priest’s jail visits to Lopez …More
The Archdiocese of Rouen cancelled a scheduled performance by a well-known Portuguese DJ priest at its Joan of Arc celebrations amid mounting criticism. On April 30, organizers of the annual Joan of Arc festivities in Rouen, France, confirmed that Father Guilherme Peixoto, a Portuguese Catholic priest known for electronic music performances, would no longer appear at the event on May 14 after a period of escalating criticism regarding the appropriateness of his participation. Officially, the priest requested a postponement, but the decision occurred amid sustained objections to the program. The announcement represents a reversal of earlier plans that had presented Peixoto as one of the principal attractions of the celebrations pretending to honor Saint Joan of Arc. His withdrawal was confirmed without detailed explanation from diocesan authorities, leaving the precise reasons formally unspecified. To replace him, organizers have arranged for a French DJ known as Charles B to perform,…
"2.6 MARY PROCLAIMED TO PIOUS PAGANS. I saw also that by the great mercy of God it was announced to certain God-fearing heathens that the Messiah was to be born from a virgin in Judea. The ancestors of the three holy kings, the star-worshippers of Chaldea, received this message by the appearance of a picture in a star or in the sky, by which they made prophecies. I saw traces of these prophetic images of the Blessed Virgin in the pictures in their temple, which I have described in my account of Jesus’ visit to them after the raising of Lazarus in the last quarter of the third year of His ministry."
[Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich – XVIII-XIX Century AD; Flamschen, Holy Roman Empire/Dulmen, German Confederation; Mystic; Stigmatist, Writer] “II. THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION “2. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN. 2.5 A REPRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN IN EGYPT. In Egypt I saw the message of salvation being announced in the following manner. I saw that by God’s command Elijah sent messages to summon devout families scattered about in three regions to the east, north, and south. For this purpose he sent forth three of the sons of the prophets, but only after asking a sign from God that he had decided rightly, for it was a difficult and dangerous mission, and he had to choose messengers whose prudence would lessen the danger of their being murdered. One traveled northwards, one eastwards, and the third southwards. This last one had to pass through a considerable part of Egyptian territory, where the Israelites were in particular danger of being killed …More
Among Benedictines, the Roman Rite and the Novus Ordo coexist very peacefully side by side, said Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder, a German Benedictine, in an interview with KNA on 30 April. Throughout the order, there are around ten abbeys that celebrate the old rite, mostly in France. The majority belong to the Congregation of Solesmes. Fontgombault Abbey was the first of a group of monasteries that celebrate according to the old rite and they are fully integrated into the Solesmes congregation. Most monasteries in that congregation use the Novus Ordo. In addition, there is Le Barroux Abbey and its daughter foundations, which were initially oriented towards the Lefebvrist movement. Following the episcopal consecrations in 1988, the monastery returned to full communion with Rome is now under the authority of Abbot Schröder. He also mentioned the community in Norcia, Italy (pictured). Novus Ordo in Fontgombault Abbot Schröder summarised: "We all treat one another with respect. As Abbot …More
From Newsweek Pope Leo XIV has appointed three new U.S. bishops who have expressed criticism of President Donald Trump's actions. Washington auxiliary bishop Evelio Menjivar has been named as the new bishop for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston covering West Virginia, according to the Catholic Standard. Father Gary Studniewski and Father Robert Boxie III have also been named as new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Washington. Menjivar previously criticized the Trump administration's immigration policies, writing in the the National Catholic Reporter last April: "the federal government has pursued a 'shock and awe' campaign of aggressive threats and highly visible operations of questionable legality that go far beyond mere immigration 'enforcement.'" Boxie previously expressed concern over Trump's efforts to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives across the U.S. "In a lot of ways we have made great progress, but in so many ways, I feel like we're regressing," Boxie …More
To put the controversy in perspective, it is helpful to review the thinking of Rome just a few years back: “I am of the opinion, to be sure, that the old rite should be granted much more generously to all those who desire it. It’s impossible to see what could be dangerous or unacceptable about that. A community [i.e. Rome] is calling its very being into question when it suddenly declares that what until now was its holiest and highest possession is strictly forbidden and when it makes the longing for it seem downright indecent.” (Ratzinger Salt of the Earth (1997) If these are the thoughts of the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (future Pope Benedict XVI) it is not possible to hold that the SSPX is schismatic for holding the same beliefs and striving to preserve "the holiest and highest possession". The author states up-front, that his only interaction with the SSPX are acquaintances and students. The treatment of the controversy would be more balanced after …More

Vatican recommends Catholic families in crisis compost and a rain gauge: The Vatican has published on August 27 the handbook, Integral Ecology in the Life of the Family, urging Catholic families to adopt environmentally focused practices such as composting, collecting rainwater, and monitoring rainfall as part of an “ecological conversion.” Issued jointly by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, the text presents care for creation and sustainable living as integral to Christian family life and holiness.
