“By the very fact that freedom of all forms of worship without distinction is established, truth is confused with error, and the Church, the holy and immaculate Bride of Christ, outside of which there is no salvation, is placed on the same level as heretical sects and even the perfidy of the Jews.
Moreover, by promising favor and support to the sects of heretics and to their ministers, one tolerates and favors not only their persons, but also their errors.
This is implicitly the disastrous and ever deplorable heresy which St. Augustine mentions in these words:
“It maintains that all heretics are on the right path and speak the truth,” an absurdity so monstrous that I cannot believe that any sect actually professes it.”
