THE BLESSED SOULS
OF PURGATORY
Francisco Vitali
For the signal...
INITIAL SENTENCE
O Mary, Mother of mercy: remember the children you have in purgatory and, presenting our suffrages and your merits to your Son, intercede so that he may forgive them their debts and take them out of those darkness into the admirable light of his glory, where they enjoy your sweetest sight and that of your blessed Son.
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, intercede together with your Wife before your Son for the souls of purgatory. Amen.
It is read about every day.
DAY 25
Meditation
Other special reasons that force us to support the souls of Purgatory
Blood, friendship and benefits are such sacred titles that they can and should never be forgotten. The voice of blood always speaks to the heart and can be heard in this world no less than in the other. We all have relatives here and there, here are the living, there the dead, and we are debtors of certain offices that blood claims for each other. He who does not take care of his own, said St. Paul, is a barbarian, a disloyal, worse than the savages themselves who live in the jungles. Now, what are the souls that inhabit Purgatory? Let's consider it well with the eyes of the spirit; aren't these those of our so eager ancestors, of our so solicitoust parents, of our so tender mothers, of our so beloved wives, of our beloved children, of our so benevolent brothers?, are they not those same ones with whom we were united with the closest blood ties and who formed the same family with us?, and can we close our eyes to their miseries and not move in pity of their state?
To the voices of blood prevail perhaps those of friendship because they are more conform to our nature and to the choice of our spirit. Kinship is more related to the body and friendship properly unites souls and narrows them in such a way that they become indivisible. Death cannot and should not separate them, it changes the relationships of friendship, it does not destroy them; for if friends communicated with each other in life with the voices and with the reciprocal offices of humanity, after death they must communicate with the pious memory and with the suffrages of religion for the acquisition of eternal bliss. He who abandons friends in misery is a denatured person, he is an unholy. I loved Teodosius in life with the most tender friendship, said the Holy Bishop Ambrosio, and he was fully reciprocated, if death has taken him away from me, not for that I will not stop following him with affection to the region of the living, nor will I ever abandon him with the offices of piety until with my prayers and with my crying I get eternal life. Here, oh friends of the world, the example you must imitate.
Not only for relatives and friends, but also for benefactors we must make special memory in our suffrages. The benefits should imprint on our spirit an eternal feeling of recognition, there is nothing greater reproach in the world than to deserve the name of ungrateful. The ungrateful is degraded to the point of worse condition than the beasts, which are recognized for those who benefit them. But who is there who can boast of not having received any benefit from the faithful deceased? If we were preserved and fed, if we received education and instruction, if we possess honors and wealth, don't we owe all this to the exquisite care they had for us?, and, who knows if for having procured us too many advantages they are not atoning among the flames the disorderly love they had for us? It would be, therefore, a very barbaric cruelty to forget those who benefited us at the cost of deserving Purgatory for us.
Prayer
Our Sweetest Lord, oh how many titles move us and force us to have mercy on the deceased! Force us the blood with their bonds, the friendship with their affections, the benefits with their corresponding gratitude, and there is no feeling in our heart that does not breathe shock and pity towards them. Therefore, with all the feelings of our heart we beg you to have mercy on our deceased and for the tenderness that your servants showed in life towards us, take them out of the deep prison of torments in which they moan and take them to your blessed mansion to receive the eternal reward of their beneficial love. Amen.
🌹Eternal Father, for the most precious blood of Jesus, mercy.

Let's pray. Oh my God, of whom it is proper to have compassion and forgiveness: we beg you pleading for the souls of your servants whom you have ordered to migrate from this world, especially for the souls of our relatives, friends and benefactors (they can be named by their proper name), so that you do not leave them in purgatory, but that you order your holy angels to take them and take them to the homeland of paradise, so that, because they waited and believed in you, they do not suffer the sorrows of purgatory, but possess the eternal joys. For Christ our Lord. Amen.
V. Give them, Lord, eternal rest.
R. And shine for them perpetual light.
V. Rest in peace.
R. Amen.
