@alexamarie Since it’s the Cathedral, it would be possible to have the funeral of non-parishioners. There have even been prominent non-Catholics to be buried out of Catholic churches, like William Rehnquist or Arnold Palmer (not that this is a good thing). But, they were not scandalous figures from the Church’s perspective, and even then, the Blessed Sacrament should have been removed from the tabernacle. A Cathedral should do some due diligence, and should also insist on working with a reputable funeral director when dealing with persons unknown to them. Obviously, none of this happened here.
