Edward Pentin sells Cardinal Pizzaballa as a "Papabile" on NcRegister.com (25 March).
Pizzaballa, born in 1965 in Cologno al Serio near Bergamo, Italy, has lived as a Franciscan in the Holy Land for 34 years. He was appointed Cardinal last summer.
For Pentin, the Cardinal is obiously the ideal successor to Francis. He is a "finely balanced" peacemaker in the Israeli-Palestinian war, with a little more sympathy for the Palestinian people.
Isaac Herzog, the right-wing president of Israel, has known Pizzaballa for two decades and considers him a "brilliant person" who is "highly respected" by all parties in the region.
The editor of the Franciscan-run TerraSanta.net praised Pizzaballa's "frankness, courage, non-clerical style, openness to meeting other people and vigour, supported by good health".
Pentin goes on to say that even Francis recognises Cardinal Pizzaballa's diplomatic skills. In addition, Pizzaballa was able to resolve the financial problems of the Latin Patriarchate, a skill …More

@en.news If it later is determined Francis was not canonically the pope then any cardinals appointed by Francis would not be legitimate cardinals much less eligible to be cardinal electors for the next conclave. @Liam Ronan I’m afraid such a determination will never be made, my friend. Never, ever. For the simple fact that, regardless of what he’s done or said since his election, it is indisputable that he was validly, duly, legitimately and canonically elected by a two-thirds majority vote of the College of Cardinals’ eligible Cardinal-Electors. Consequently, NO future Pontiff (with or without an …More

For the simple fact that, regardless of what he’s done or said since his election, it is indisputable that he was validly, duly, legitimately and canonically elected by a two-thirds majority vote of the College of Cardinals’ eligible Cardinal-Electors. Consequently, NO future Pontiff (with or without an Ecumenical Council), who would be the ONLY human on earth — in accordance with Canon Law and the Church’s infallible magisterium — with the supreme power and juridical authority to abrogate and annul the pontificate of a predecessor, is going to wrought the kind of universal havoc that such a determination would unleash throughout the whole Church and around the entire world, both at that particular time and well into the future. There will never be a Pope who would be willing to even consider such a thing, even if he himself believes there might be some doubt or question regarding the status of Pope Francis’ pontificate. It’s a proverbial “can of worms” no future Bishop of Rome would ever deign to open. A Papal Act of that magnitude would all but destroy the Papacy along with any relevancy of the Throne of Saint Peter and the legitimacy of the Apostolic See. It just won’t happen.

@SonoftheChurch Your reply is a tautology. He is pope not just because he was 'elected' but that he was "...indisputable that he was validly, duly, legitimately and canonically elected by a two-thirds majority vote of the College of Cardinals..." but were Benedict XVI's bifurcation of the papacy invalid then Bergolio was never pope and remains a non-pope since no conclave was held since the death …More

I'd say that Bergolio's validity as a pope is hotly and cogently disputed by some rather bright Catholic leaders.

There is really only one thing, at this point, that must be considered: Where does he stand regarding Kissy’s sodomy blessing Declaration? Does he agree with the Pope that sodomites and their vile pairings can and must be approved, sanctioned and “blessed” by Holy Mother Church? Because, at the end of the day, where he stands on that ONE subject alone is all we need to know in ascertaining whether …More

Does he agree with the Pope that sodomites and their vile pairings can and must be approved, sanctioned and “blessed” by Holy Mother Church? Because, at the end of the day, where he stands on that ONE subject alone is all we need to know in ascertaining whether or not His Eminence is truly and genuinely — or even remotely — qualified to be elected to the Throne of Saint Peter as the next Supreme Pontiff and Vicar of Christ on Earth. This is where we must absolutely and unequivocally draw the line. His convictions and practiced beliefs about that one sin — sodomy — supersedes all other considerations and, all other things being equal, is the one crucial litmus test for the Petrine Office. Above all else, it’s THE deal breaker.

He is presently remaining quiet on these issues.

The one who goes into the Conclave wanting to be Pope, leaves a Cardinal!
Irishpol
Pope Francis gave him the red hat. That says it all.
Boanerges Boanerges
When will we stop with this cowardly talk about the next conclave and pathetic discussion about Bergoglio's health and start fighting for our Faith like REAL men?!

@Boanerges Boanerges 👏 Right on!! Seems that all so-called 'catholics from birth' still haven't awakened! In the past 11 years of this bergoglian circus, they 'obediently blind and dormant' have not learned what has happened in 'their Catholic Church'! Just the visible fact that Cardinal Burke was happily smiling going towards 'Francis' obviously not even (that) has opened 'their eyes'! Cardinal …More

Cardinal Burke no longer criticizes Bergoglio, openly...why? Because he had to save his Rome Apartment, his pension, his lacey cardinalist attire = he had to make 'the deal' with Jorge! Bishops and Cardinals are no longer following in the footsteps of the Apostles; they follow in the footsteps of the masonic, jesuit infiltrators in the Vatican. The small 'remnant' that Benedict XVI talked about decades ago... is the 'revelation'. The faith is saved in TRUE CATHOLIC HEARTS AND MINDS who will stand up and fight what will be the second "Lepanto Battle"!

Do we really need another layman modernist pretending to be pope? Our Lady of Buen Suceso, come to our aid!
