Calling the Shroud of Turin a "Medieval European Forgery" Is a Forgery

The flax used to make the linen of the Turin Shroud was grown in the Western Levant, which covers the modern territories of the Holy Land, Lebanon, western parts of Jordan and Syria.

This is the result of new isotopic tests commissioned by the American archaeologist William Meacham and carried out at the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the University of Hong Kong.

Meacham is a board member of the Shroud of Turin Education and Research Association (STERA). He obtained permission to test five of the seven threads in the group's possession.

The tests confirmed that the pollen on the linen indicated an Eastern Mediterranean presence.

Furthermore, the crown of thorns visible on the shroud is in the form of a helmet rather than a Roman circlet, a characteristic of Asia Minor and the Levant. The use of coins on the eyes in the shroud image matches a documented example from a second century burial in Judea.

There is one thing which doesn't add up. According to great mystic (e.g. St. Bridget of Sweden, Bl. Catherine Emmerich, etc.) the ribs of our Lord were visible. There is no sign of this on the Shroud. That's why I don't believe the Shroud to be the true burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Templars had and venerated the Shroud, under extreme tortures they confessed to venerate Baphomet. In a word - the …More

By the way, I was a big believer in the Shroud, not anymore.
The Wandering Recluse
@In Principio That crossed my mind, as well. I can't recall which saint claimed, that all of the flesh was removed from Christ's back revealing his full rib cage and backbone.

Coins on the eyes was a Greco-Roman belief that there was a tollman at the gate of Hades, that must be paid in order for the soul to cross the river and enter the realm of the dead.

Quite an interesting theory and totally abstract here. Who believed in Hades at the burial of Jesus? Three Marys? Joseph of Arimathea? Nicodemus?

These coins on the eyes really bother me.

Coins on the eyes were there to protect the epitelium on the cornea from scourging during the resurrection process. The skin could very well support the radiation, but the eyes could not. I did some experiments with radiation to see what is necessary to get an image on linen, shown here in this video.

Do you believe that Nicodemus / Joseph followed your above-mentioned manual? A kind of "Resurrection for Dummies"?
I ask why pious Jews like them should have put coins on Jesus eyes (supposing it is His burial shroud).

Greeks put obols for Charon (on the mouth) but their pagan customs were an abomination of desolation for the Jews.

Well, maybe they did not put the coins there for that purpose. But for any other reason that is not mentioned anywhere. A divine inspiration of the moment.

Let me try to post the whole video here to Gloria.tv. It seems like the right moment for me to post a video with this theme.
